Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
