People have come together throughout the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted assault on 7 October 2023, as negotiations proceeded in Egypt over a resolution to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The assault led to over 1,200 people dead and 251 others taken away to Gaza as captives. It was the single deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel responded by initiating a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed over 67,000 people, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are seen as accurate by the UN and other global organizations.

"The aggressive enemies have hit us hard, but they have not defeated us," the prime minister remarked on that day.

He also vowed to "achieve all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the elimination of the Hamas administration and the guarantee that Gaza will never again pose a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed state memorials until 16 October - after the completion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still were held around the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the loved ones of people who lost their lives in the Hamas assault was held in the coastal city. Put together by the affected families, it was broadcast across Israeli television channels.

Some time earlier, a minute's silence was observed across the country.

Ceasefire Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas delegations convened in the Egyptian tourist destination of the Egyptian city for a second day of mediated discussions to discuss the terms of the plan.

A prominent representative familiar with the negotiations revealed that an late session of negotiations commenced at evening in Egypt.

The official explained the morning session finished without tangible results, because of disagreements over the proposed Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to make certain Israel does not restart hostilities after the opening period of the arrangement.

He noted that the negotiations are "challenging and have still not achieve any major advancement," but mentioned that mediators are striving to close the gaps between the both parties.

Essential Issues in Negotiations

  • An enduring truce
  • The trade of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Plans for humanitarian aid deliveries
  • After-conflict management of the area

Citizen Feeling

In the city's Hostages Square that day, young a woman - whose family member lived through the attack on the gathering, where 378 people were lost their lives and many more were captured by Hamas militants - explained: "Nowhere feels like home any longer and until each abducted person are released not a single person will be secure."

"Once we see everyone home returned, we can relax anew. Then we can commence rebuild," she added.

Near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in the capital, people congregated to express their solidarity for the relatives of the captives. Israel says nearly fifty remain in captivity in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be surviving.

Activist one woman stated: "We need do whatever arrangement needed for the hostages to be released. But we truly desire assurances that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that approximately 70% of the population desire the war to end in exchange for the freedom of the abducted.

Gaza Circumstances

At the area of Nova festival, mourners assembled to pay their respects.

From the site, the boom of military attacks and artillery could be detected just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where local people reported the heavy Israeli attacks continued.

In the main city, air and artillery strikes were reported in the morning of that day in the west side district, Rimal and locality areas and in the east side neighbourhood of that sector, as well the settlement to the northwest.

"As the dusk comes, the dread comes with it," relocated Gaza City resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose young son was died by an Israeli air strike earlier, shared.

"Me and my three children are afraid of the attacks. During nighttime we are sleeping together, embracing, especially my little child who places his face on me the entire evening."

"Constantly we monitor the reports to see developments. And I'm afraid that this ceasefire will not be achieved and that the conflict will return to us."

Health Emergency

The healthcare center in Gaza City announced it had taken in the remains of several people by the afternoon, including a trio who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Another medical facility in the south region of that area reported another two dead people had been brought there. One of them was died by Israeli troops while looking for assistance to the south, health workers reported.

The region's health ministry announced a significant number of the {territ
