That Grisly Cartoon Film Conclusion That Haunts Fans

Out of all the mature animated films I’ve ever viewed, no other has remained with me as much as the terror-laced conclusion of the viscerally violent as well as overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie The Unicorn Wars.

Back in 2015’s, this Spain-based writer-director developed a dark, melancholy , often savage universe that included some tiny , forlorn glimmers of hope.

While The Unicorn Wars appears as it came from a drive to advance the medium even more, the director stated that it was more an effort to convey a universal, cross-cultural theme regarding “the shared root of each battle.”

That message is communicated by means of a group of vividly colored bears , clearly modeled after a famous series of cuddly figures.

Growing up in a community focused on aggression and the defense industry, numerous these animals are obsessed with killing the mythical beasts, thanks to a holy book which states them they used to be rulers of the forest, before these creatures expelled them.

Others did not entirely fallen for the propaganda, , prefer to sample narcotics or mate in the forest.

Unlike their gentle counterparts, these colorful critters display genitals and definite sex drives.

For one especially vicious, pessimistic creature, the bear named Bluey, the battle with the unicorns turns into a route to power — and particularly to supremacy above his gentler, kinder brother the character Tubby.

The character is a bully and a seeming antisocial figure , and while terror dominates his group and kills his teammates one by one, he grabs increasingly power personally, through ever more gory, damaging approaches.

At the same time, the unicorns are experiencing their own terror, through an expanding, harmful creature in their woods.

“At the beginning, it seems like a humorous movie,” the director stated. “But then it becomes a more serious and melancholic movie. And by the end, it transforms into a horror film.”

Unicorn Wars starts out feeling a bit like one of the more quirky movies by an iconic filmmaker, that uncover a wicked pleasure in allowing cartoon characters curse, fire weapons, or engage sexually.

Then it turns into something more like a more grim film from the same artist, including ever more graphic violence , a palpable relation to the actual suffering of war.

Ultimately, it becomes a complete extreme drama bloodbath.

The horror which makes this a perfect Halloween viewing kicks in a lot earlier than indicated.

Unicorn Wars is one for the devoted gorehounds, for enthusiasts of intense movies who want to watch a film they’ve never viewed until now, and who can handle a plot that offers absolutely no punches.

View it with the lights off without any distractions, and the finale will dig deep within you and take up residence there.
