Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's expected for questions to be asked about his future following a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the team's poorest streak after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received significant support from management,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to change things and secure a win obviously but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I feel the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over familiar failings from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a phase such as this with outcomes like these.”
Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, prove once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the world.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
