Shock as Popular South African DJ Killed in the City of Johannesburg.
A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country grappling with rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the central business district on a Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the forty-year-old presenter was confronted by three suspects, one of whom opened fire on him before running away.
The purpose of the incident has not been established and no one has been arrested have been made, according to authorities.
How It Happened
Police revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was departing from a building near the Carlton Centre.
He had spent several hours at the site managing the setup of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unidentified individuals, as per local media.
"Authorities believe the man was confronted by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before running from the location on foot," an official report stated.
Security camera video reportedly depicted a man with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what resembled a protective services outfit opening fire on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ tried to run away after he was wounded but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.
It was further revealed that Stock had an weapon on his person and it was not a robbery during the assault.
Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were discovered at the crime scene.

Police have appealed eyewitnesses who may have have information to come forward.
"Our information indicates they traveled on foot after the shooting, and investigators have been attempting to locate them to determine their location," added an official.

His sister, a close relative, stated the relatives are devastated to understand the tragedy.
"Words fail me. I am shattered," were her words.
"It is clear he was a champion for numerous individuals. He spoke out bravely about topics not many people were willing to tackle. This is a devastating blow."

In a statement, the channel he worked for declared Stock was known for his magnetism, warmth and quick humor, adding that his legacy "will live on".
