Jurgen Klopp says a return to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, indicated that a future comeback is a possibility. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful near-decade reign that included a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown in 30 years, now holds positions overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and in an advisory capacity for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the Premier League under Arne Slot, though countless followers who adore the manager would embrace the idea of his potential comeback. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with his interviewer: “I said I will never coach another team on English soil. Therefore in case it's my former club...yes. It's plausible.”
“Being 58, so I might decide down the line, I don’t know. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, it's not necessary. I can just see how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about what circumstances would have to unfold to bring him back to the touchline, Klopp admitted he isn't eager for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be under bad weather through long matches; No need for media briefings repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats each week.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, however, dining out with the team talking freely, is pleasant. We won a lot of games so there was often great spirits in the building. Remaining with me is Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled as an instance.”
Praise for His Successor
He spoke highly of the current boss, praising him due to the changes which secured the championship in the previous season. Liverpool have lost a string of losses across various tournaments post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the notion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, excellent performer. This is a well-built balanced team. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for Diogo Jota
The manager expressed deep feeling regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and its impact at the club. Jota lost his life in a vehicle collision alongside his brother recently.
“How do you replace a person like him? It goes beyond his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the squad absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A devastating blow for his teammates as well. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it for poor performances but it is the situation. You walk in a dressing room where his spirit remains. Handling this individually is challenging. Impossible.”
